Roadside Emergency Kit - Things You Must Have In Case Of A Car Breakdown

Driving is one of those activities that everyone takes for granted. Most of the drivers on the road are experienced, and even the cars are much more reliable now, but this does not mean that accidents won’t and can’t happen.

To avoid unforeseen accidents, it is essential to be prepared for a roadside emergency and have an emergency kit in your vehicle at all times. This way, you won’t panic if your car breaks down in the middle of the highway, and you will have all the necessary things to help you get back on the road or patiently wait till the help arrives.

Below we mention essentials that you must have in your car emergency kit.

Flashlight

A flashlight is the most important item to include in the car emergency kit. A little light can go a long way. It can help you either change your tire in the dark or you can use it to signal an emergency. Make sure to pack extra batteries in case the ones inside the flashlight get drained.

Reflectors

One of the most dangerous parts of being stuck in the middle of the highway is the possibility of collisions with passing cars. Placing reflectors behind your car will help warn drivers and will create a barrier between your vehicle and the incoming traffic.

Road Flares

Road flares have the same function as reflectors. You can have either one of them in your emergency kit. Having one or two road flares along with reflectors is a good idea, though. They can also help protect you from wild animals. Precautions should be taken while using them.

First Aid Kit

Having a first aid kit at your disposal at all times is crucial. You never know when the road betrays you and causes an accident. Bandages, painkillers, and antiseptic can help you buy some time before the ambulance or the roadside assistance arrives.

Fire Extinguisher

Fire extinguishers are important whenever you’re dealing with combustible material. After a car crash, the engine often catches fire. A fire extinguisher will help prevent the escalation of the problem.

Jumper Cables

Jumper cables and flashlights will probably be the tools you use the most from your emergency kit. Dead batteries are a common cause of car breakdowns and jumper cables can help start your car in no time.

Blankets, Ponchos, Snacks And Water Bottle

Having blankets and ponchos will not save your life in an emergency, but they sure will make it easier. If you have to change a flat tire in the rain or you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere in freezing temperatures and can’t use your fuel, then these items can come in handy. Whereas, water and protein snacks can help you ward off hunger pangs while you concentrate on getting help.

These are a few of the essential things you should always keep in your emergency car kit. It is also of extreme importance to have the contact information of a towing company like Action Towing saved in your phone for quick and affordable roadside assistance.
