Which Car Problems Require Towing?

What-Is-Recovery-Towing-An-Overview-1.jpg

When you become stuck on the side of the road, you may think you require towing. You might just be right, depending on the situation. However, it’s a wise idea to confirm whether your car needs to be towed or if a simple fix can get you back on the road before calling a tow truck.

Some car problems can be resolved immediately, and some may require additional treatment at the mechanic shop. You can repair a flat tire if you have the necessary equipment and a spare tire. An experienced towing service can help you get to the next gas station if you run out of gas. However, some car issues can make your vehicle unfit or dangerous to drive.

This blog post will go through a few common car issues and help you decide whether you need to hire a towing service in Edmonton.

Engine Or Transmission Failure

You are on your way to work, listening to music and having a good time until smoke begins streaming out from under your hood. If your car’s engine or transmission is rattling, overheating, smoking, or seizing, you require towing.

A skilled car mechanic will have the necessary components and be able to make an assessment. Keep in mind that roadside assistance services cannot fix issues with the engine or gearbox.

Flat Tire

A flat tire is the most common issue you’ll probably run into while driving. Ensure that you just go the distance required to reach a secure location. If you get a flat tire while driving on a highway, go to the right and, if necessary, into the grass. As stranded vehicles have frequently been struck by driving traffic, you might want to think about getting out of your car and away from the road.

The best course of action is to pull over to the side of the road, far enough from oncoming traffic or into a nearby parking lot, and then contact a reputable towing service.

Dead Battery

The next most common problem on the road is a dead car battery. Because batteries do age and ultimately die, you may just require a new battery. However, there’s often another reason why your battery may have died. It can be anything, including a malfunctioning charging system or an alternator. This is an easy solution if you carry a portable charging pack in your truck.

To go to the shop, you may change your car up enough to get there, where an expert mechanic will then be able to change the batteries for you. However, it’s a good idea to have the automobile towed rather than trying to jump-start it yourself or hire a towing company that also offers battery-boosting services.

Brake Failure

A significant problem with your car’s brakes puts you and other drivers on the road at risk. Breaks malfunction typically when there is a leak in the braking fluid, an oily, transparent liquid with a sometimes reddish tint. Don’t try to drive your car if you see an area on your driveway that resembles brake fluid.

Call a nearby towing company immediately if you find yourself in this situation.

Smoke Coming From The Car

Smoke coming out of the car is most likely the result of an oil leak leaking onto the engine. If the smoke is blue and smells like burnt frying oil, check your vehicle’s oil levels and leakage rate. You shouldn’t drive if the leak is too severe because there’s a possibility you’ll run out of oil before getting to the repair shop since having no oil in your car might cause the engine to fail.

To be on the safe side, contact a tow towing service. It might be dangerous if white smoke or vapour that smells like fuel is coming from your hood. Avoid opening the hood and wait for roadside assistance.

Sudden Decrease In Drivability Or Handling

If your car suddenly becomes difficult to handle, unbalanced, or begins pulling in one way, it’s recommended to pull over and assess the problem. The unpredictable behaviour might be caused by a low or flat tire, a loose wheel, small truck-made ruts in the road, or snow and ice filling in your tires. Resolve the problem before continuing to drive, and only drive if your vehicle is under control and the problem is nominal.
