Things To Keep In Mind When Calling Roadside Assistance On A Rainy Day

Things-To-Keep-In-Mind-When-Calling-Roadside-Assistance-On-A-Rainy-Day

Driving in rainy weather can be dangerous. Water causes the road surface to become slippery, causing many cars to unknowingly lose traction, perhaps crashing into other vehicles and objects. Excessive rain can also cause vehicle breakdowns.

Nobody wants their car to break down, yet it is something inevitable. On top of this, during harsh weather conditions, it is even more difficult to handle such situations. At times like these, it is best to call for roadside assistance.

However, there are some protocols for waiting for roadside assistance in rainy weather. To help raise awareness on the matter, we have curated this blog.

We have mentioned some of the things you should keep in mind while waiting for roadside assistance on a rainy day. However, before that, we have listed some practices you should follow while driving on a rainy day.

Practices That Will Make Driving In Rainy Weather Safe

Keep Your Distance While Driving

Keep an eye on the distance between your car and the adjacent one. The ideal spacing is either twice as much space or a six-second buffer between you and the vehicle in front of you. This will help in braking as it will take longer for cars to stop on wet roads than it does in dry circumstances.

As keeping the proper position on the road is even more crucial when it is raining, it also helps to use the road markers to stay inside your lane.

Slow Down And Pull Over

Pulling over in the rain while your vehicle is broken down is a terrifying idea. You must adapt your brakes to match the wetter road surface and avoid aquaplaning, so keep a safe distance from other cars and slow down while pulling over.

When driving in the rain, you should always maintain a slower pace so that if you need to pull over unexpectedly, your speed should be lower than normal generally. Put your warning lights on after stopping, then contact a roadside assistance number.

Maintain Visibility

It is critical to be as visible as possible when driving in the rain. In wet circumstances, both you and your car become considerably more difficult to see, particularly at night. Therefore, always activate your warning lights and side lights but avoid using full beam lights as they may harm other drivers.

For emergencies, you might want to have a high-exposure vest in your trunk. This will help you stand out in the rain when you’re outside your car. Of course, if you’ve pulled over somewhere perfect, try to stay inside, though there’s always the chance you’ll need to wait outside for assistance.

What To Do While Waiting For Roadside Assistance On A Rainy Day

Don’t Attempt To Restart The Engine

Heavy rain frequently causes large pools of water to form on poorly maintained roads. These can occasionally be the direct source of a problem, as water causes serious harm to the engine.

If you mistakenly drive into deep water, it could look tempting to restart the engine, but you should actually avoid doing this. If you try to start the engine again, you may risk further damage since the water intake might jam up the engine and damage the piston rods and valves.

Keep The Hood Shut

Heavy rain causes more breakdowns since the downpour can put a strain on the engine parts. The vehicle’s electrical system and other components are also impacted by this. Keep the hood closed and dial for roadside assistance rather than attempting to open it to find the source of the issue.

The risk of getting additional water in the engine and other regions under the hood increases if you open the hood in the rain.

Hold Your Nerves

If you ever find yourself in this situation, don’t freak out. Try to calm yourself and think of possible solutions. Rain and speed are two things that don’t go well together. Make sure not to exceed the posted speed limit when pulling over, towing, or driving in the rain in general. It is best to simply proceed slowly. You will arrive at your destination without incident.
